Q: How do you feel about being selected to participate in Colorado Independent Women of Film?
ER: Deeply honored!
Q: What are your hopes for the event?
ER: My hopes for this event are to meet other Colorado women making films, as well as experience some of the art being made in this great state.
Q: How important is it to focus on regional women filmmakers?
ER: I think it is extremely important to focus on local female work. In a male dominated industry, it is often difficult to get noticed or established. Events like CIWF offer great opportunities.
Q: Who would enjoy attending the festival? Is it just for the filmmaking community, or is there a reason why non-filmmakers should attend?
ER: I am a filmmaker, but I also identify as an artist who used film as a medium. I think film is one of the most captivating and powerful art forms, and anyone who loves visual art, music or performance will certainly take away something from attending. That is the beauty of film- it brings so many expressive elements together.
Q: This is the 7th year of CIWF. Do you have a favorite memory of the festival (or screening at The Bug Theatre) in years past?
ER: Believe it or not- this is my first year!
Q: Tell me briefly about yourself and your film/project.
ER: I am a filmmaker/artist from Denver. I studied in Boston, earning a BFA in Film. My work largely consists of experimental silent shorts, that thematically deal with consciousnesses. From Away was shot in Maine and is about being an outsider to a community told through my relationship to animals.
Q: Tell us one unique thing about you and/or your movies?
ER: I shoot everything on 16mm film!
Q: What else are you working on?
ER: Right now I am working on a found footage piece where I am physically manipulating parts of the film strip. This new work is about family, anonymity and memory.
Q: Where can people go to find out more about you and your work?
ER: My website – eileenroscina.com
Q: Is there anything else you’d like to say about Colorado Independent Women of Film?
ER: Thank you for showing my film!
From Away will screen Friday, February 10th at 8:00 p.m. at The Bug Theatre.
