Meet the Filmmaker: Jhené Chase, “The Fantastic Finneas Frook”

CIWF Filmmaker Interview: Jhené Chase
The Fantastic Finneas Frook

jhenechaseQ: How do you feel about being selected to participate in Colorado Independent Women of Film?
JC: I’m excited to participate for my second year and share the last film I’ve been working on with my team.

Q: What are your hopes for the event?
JC: Looking forward to meeting more female filmmakers in Denver and see their projects.

Q: How important is it to focus on regional women filmmakers?
JC: It’s monumentally important to focus on women filmmakers. We’re definitely in the minority and our stories are different from our male counterparts, our voices deserve to be explored and shared with an audience.

Q: Who would enjoy attending the festival? Is it just for the filmmaking community, or is there a reason why non-filmmakers should attend?
JC: Film combines art, culture and community. Anyone interested in any of the aforementioned elements should attend the festival.

Q: This is the 4th year of CIWF. What’s been the best part/a favorite memory of the festival in years past?
JC: Last year after the Q & A a mom came up to me and told me Caged Starling reminded her of her daughter. I happened to have an extra copy and was able to give it to her to share. I was touched that she got to take part of the experience home with her.

Q: We hold CIWF at The Bug Theatre. Why is The Bug a great home for this event?
JC: The Bug does so much every month supporting local filmmakers by hosting The Emerging Filmmakers Project and holding classes for local actors. It’s the perfect fit.

Q: Tell me briefly about your film/project.
JC: The Fantastic Finneas Frook is a passion project I created with other local filmmakers with the hope of further honing our storytelling skills and developing our voice. We created something really challenging for ourselves and learned so much in the process.

The Fantastic Finneas Frook will screen Saturday, August 16th at 8:00 p.m. at The Bug Theatre.
